11:00 a.m. – Guests arrive at Sandy Valley
Ranch and are greeted by Bandits and cowboys
on horseback that will “hold-up” the guests and direct
them to the Ranch House for a warm Western welcome and orientation.
Guests will divide into two outlaw Gangs for the activities. Guests
will be given a souvenir straw cowboy hat
and a souvenir bandana to help get them
into the Western Spirit and to help distinguish the two Gangs. Gangs
pick a gang leader who is responsible for a burlap bag containing
the hay cubes that the gang members earn for their expertise in
the various activities. Awards are given for the gang with the most
hay cubes. Some sneaky gangs even try to steal the other gang’s
cubes. Each gang will also receive “wild cards” that
may be used to substitute in a Ranch staff member for any activity.
The Gang Leader may elect to have another gang member substitute
as well. Gangs will earn one point for each wild card they turn
back in at the end of the adventure. The Gangs are encouraged to
come up with their own gang names.
Gangs not behavin’ like gangs or Gang Leaders not up to the
challenge of Gang Leadin’ may have points taken away from
their bag throughout the event. This is at the discretion (or whim)
of the facilitator and Wranglers!
Throughout the Event – Drinks – Soda,
coffee, tea and bottled water will be available at our self-service
bar in the Ranch House and on the lawn, near the games. Alcohol
will be available if provided by the Client. Cost for SVR to transport
alcohol: $100.
11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. – Trail Rides –
Everyone mounts up for a trail ride. Our trail rides are designed
to allow guests to become comfortable with a horse (if they aren’t
already) and to explore the range on our more than 300 square miles
of pristine sage and mesquite ranch land. Riders will enjoy the
beautiful Nevada desert and mountain scenery. We don’t ride
“nose to tail” and our horses are well trained to handle
both inexperienced and experienced riders. This is a non-competitive
event. No points are awarded for this activity – it gets gang
members warmed up for the mounted activities to come.
12:30 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. – Rib Stickin’
Barbeque Lunch and Company Meeting – Cowboys
and Cowgirls mosey into the Ranch House for a delicious two-entrée
lunch buffet bar featuring Smokey Burgers with cheese, Old West
Chinese Laundry Chicken Salad, Potato Salad, and a lip smackin’
dessert. Coffee, tea, water and soda are included, as well as alcoholic
beverages if provided by the Client.
During Lunch – Company Meeting
2:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. – Arena Activities
– Everyone moves to our championship arenas where the Gangs
compete against the clock to see who can develop the best strategy
to do the following in the shortest time:
• Goat Dressin’
– Don’t ya know goats, like to get dressed up! This
activity is unique, but also safe for our friendly goats. Guests
compete to catch their goat, and dress it in an oversized t-shirt
and shorts. The Gang with the fastest time wins! Half the battle
is makin’ sure the goats keep their shorts on! This activity
is great for building communication (mostly swearing), not to mention
lots of laughs. And don’t worry. This activity is designed
to be safe for our friendly goats. The winning Gang gets 10
hay cubes.
• Single Action Mounted Shooting
– Our Wranglers will demonstrate the art of Single Action
Shooting. This challenging Western activity is accomplished on horseback.
The trick is to ride as fast as possible while shooting playing
cards on poles set-up in a course. It’s like rubbing your
stomach, patting your head and walking all at the same time. Guests
will then be selected to try it. The guns we use on the ranch are
replicas of Single Action Colt Pistols that were used in the Wild
West. They don’t fire real bullets, just blanks, which makes
this activity safe yet very exciting.
• Team Cattle Penning – The
guests will have a hoot-and-a-half trying their hand at Team Cattle
Penning. After a demonstration by our Wranglers, teams of guests
volunteer to mount our well-trained horses and develop a strategy
to move an ornery herd of cattle from one end of the arena into
a pen at the other end. The Gang with the fastest time wins 10 hay
cubes to add to their gang bag!
4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. – The group adjourns
to the Ranch House for wrap-up activities. Nibblin’s and drinks
(that’s cocktails and hors d’oeuvres for the fancy cowboys)
will be served. The Client will choose two hors d’oeuvres.
Soda, coffee, tea and bottled water will be available. Alcohol
will be available if provided by the Client. Cost for SVR to transport
alcohol: $100.
During Nibblin’s – Bandits will round
everyone up for the ever-popular Sandy Valley Ranch Awards
Ceremony. Hay cubes will be counted under the watchful
eyes of our Wranglers and special awards will be given to guests
accomplishing amazing and unusual feats throughout the event such
as:
• Best Cowpoke with a Rope
• Most Accurate with a Cow Pie
• Most Courageous Bucking Barrel Rider
And, some lucky guest may even be awarded the world famous and
much sought-after Sandy Valley Ranch Golden Cow Pie.
5:30 p.m. – Guests bid a sad farewell to
the Ranch and head back to the 21st century.
