16 Person Overnight Team Building Event
Day 1 – 1:00 p.m. to Day 3 – 1:00 p.m.
Imagine sleeping under a blanket of stars so close you can almost
touch them, where the night’s silence wraps you in the spirit
of the West and where the aroma of campfire coffee and the stirring
of horses in the early light fill you with the lure of the open
range.
As
you saddle up and head off toward the horizon, your every sense
tells you that you’ve finally found it, the chance to play
cowboy...for real.
DAY 1
12:00
p.m. – Guests leave Las Vegas for Sandy Valley Ranch
(SVR) for an hour’s trip back in time to the Wild West of
100 years ago. Transportation provided by the Client. SVR can
provide transportation for an additional fee. If desired and for
an additional fee, the bus can stop and pick up a hitch-hiking Western
Character in Jean to entertain with questionable humor,
cowboy poetry and cowboy lies (which are basically the same thing)
for the last half of the ride to the Ranch. He will remain with
the guests during the event and provide further entertainment.
1:00
p.m. – Guests arrive at Sandy Valley Ranch and are
greeted by Bandits and cowboys on horseback
that will “hold-up” the guests and direct them to the
Ranch House for a warm Western welcome and orientation. Guests will
receive souvenir bandanas and straw
cowboy hats to get them in the spirit!
Upon
Arrival – Lunch in the Ranch House – Cowboys
and Cowgirls mosey into the Ranch House for a delicious two-entrée
lunch buffet bar featuring Smokey Burgers with cheese, Old West
Chinese Laundry Chicken Salad, Potato Salad, and a lip smackin’
dessert. Coffee, tea, water and soda are included, as well as alcoholic
beverages if provided by the Client.
The group will
be divided into two outlaw gangs distinguished by their bandana
color. Gangs pick a gang leader who is responsible for a burlap
bag containing the hay cubes that the gang members earn for their
expertise in the various activities. Awards are given for the gang
with the most hay cubes. Some sneaky gangs even try to steal the
other gang’s cubes. Each gang will also receive “wild
cards” that may be used to substitute in a Ranch staff member
for any activity. The Gang Leader may elect to have another gang
member substitute as well. Gangs will earn one point for each wild
card they turn back in at the end of the adventure. The Gangs are
encouraged to come up with their own gang names.
Gangs not behavin’
like gangs or Gang Leaders not up to the challenge of Gang Leadin’
may have points taken away from their bag throughout the event.
This is at the discretion (or whim) of the facilitator and Wranglers!
1:30
p.m. to 3:30 p.m. – Trail Rides and Games
– Gang one will head to the barn and mount up for an hour’s
trail ride. Gang two will participate in a Wagon Treasure Hunt:
• Horseback
Trail Ride – Our trail rides are designed to
allow guests to become comfortable with a horse (if they aren’t
already) and to explore the range on our more than 300 square miles
of pristine sage and mesquite ranch land. Riders will enjoy the
beautiful Nevada desert and mountain scenery. We don’t ride
“nose to tail” and our horses are well trained to handle
both inexperienced and experienced riders. This is a non-competitive
event.
• Wagon
Ride Treasure Hunt – The gang will take a wagon
ride, one of the world’s first modes of transportation pulled
by our matched gang of Belgian Draft horses, to find the Old Wells
Fargo Lock Box full of treasure stolen and buried by a bunch of
low down, no good varmints. The gangs will be given a treasure map
and will have to come up with a strategy to find the treasure. This
is a timed event from the moment the group is given their map. The
faster they find the treasure, the better! The fastest Gang wins
10 hay cubes!
2:30
p.m. – Gangs switch activities.
3:30
p.m. – Western Activities and Games –
Guests can observe and or participate in the following activities:
•
Axe Throwing – Guests learn the knack of throwing
a tomahawk-like axe at a target. It takes both skill and grace and
ladies seem to get the knack of it quicker than the guys. Of course,
hay cubes are awarded for each hit. Throwin’ at the boss is
discouraged! One hay cube awarded for each axe in the target.
• Box Hockey – This is an
old cowboy game similar to foosball. One hay cube awarded for participating.
• Bucking Barrel – Participants
mount a barrel tethered about four-feet off the ground (as if riding
a buckin’ bronc) and are bounced up and down by our ranch
hands. This simulates what it is like for cowboys who ride Broncs
but is much safer. It really warms up the group, and gets ‘em
hootin’ and hollerin’. One hay cube awarded for
participating.
• Cow Pie Toss – The objective
of this game is to toss a dried cow pie (cow poop) into a hoop on
the ground. Participants wear gloves and it’s a lot harder
than it sounds (no pun intended). One cube awarded for each
hay cube in the circle.
• Horseshoes – This is the
traditional horseshoe pitching game where participants “pitch”
(throw) horseshoes a distance of approximately twenty-feet and try
to get a “ringer” (throw the horseshoe around the metal
stake), a “leaner” (lean the shoe against the stake),
or “closest-to-the-pole.” Two hay cubes awarded
for a ringer. One hay cube awarded for a leaner.
• Roping Lessons – Participants
are instructed on how to use a lasso, just like cowboys do ropin’
cattle. Guests practice on a “fake and friendly” steer
(but watch out, we’ve noticed he dodges to the right.)
One hay cube awarded for each catch.
Throughout
the Games – Nibblin’s and Drinks
– That’s cocktails and hors d’oeuvres for the
fancy cowboys. The Client will choose two hors d’oeuvres.
Soda, coffee, tea and bottled water will be available. Alcohol
will be available if provided by the Client. Cost for SVR to transport
alcohol: $100.
4:30
p.m. – Washboard Band Activity – The
Gangs will be given a theme song, such as The Beverly Hillbillies
theme, and will also be given instruments, such as a washboard,
jug, harmonica, guitar, banjo etc. During the allotted time, the
Gangs must come up with new words for their song using the melody
of the theme music. The more creative, the better! They may dance
to the music and also play the instruments while singing. The Gang
will perform their number after dinner on the second night, around
the campfire. The winning Gang, decided by the Wranglers, will receive
10 hay cubes! This activity can be eliminated for more free
time for guests.
Out
at Cow Camp
5:15
p.m. – Camp Set-Up – Gang 1 will ride
horses to Cow Camp. Gang 2 will ride in the wagon. After tying-up
their horses to the hitching post and making sure they are tended
to, or ridin’ out in the Chuck Wagon, guests will stake out
a tent and make it theirs for the evening. (Guests personal gear
has already been transported to the camp.) SVR will supply tents,
camp-o-mats, sleeping bags, camp pillows, flashlights, and lantern.
(*Please note – SVR has 10 tents for guests. This means guests
will need to double-up.)
Roping
Instruction – Guests will have the opportunity
to continue tryin’ their hand at roping.
Cocktails
around the Campfire – If client desires SVR
staff will serve drinks. Alcohol must be provided by the Client.
Throughout
the Evening – Acoustic Guitarist and Campfire –
An acoustic guitarist entertains guests with sweet sounds around
the campfire.
Chuck
Wagon Dinner – Our Chef will serve up his Chuck
Wagon Dinner. (Yes, it’s delivered by chuck-wagon.) Dinner
will be served in a cozy pavilion on the range, just the way the
cowboys dined, ‘cept you won’t have to squat by the
fire – tables and benches are provided. A few cattle may mosey
on by during dinner, and a pot bellied stove and two campfires will
keep things warm if it’s cold. You might even hear a few coyotes
howl, if they’re not feelin’ lazy. Dinner will consist
of lip smackin’ ribs, cowboy steaks and grilled barbequed
chicken. Side dishes included are: a mixed green salad with choice
of 2 dressings, home-made hot corn bread with honey butter, cowboy
beans, and potato, plus coffee, soda, tea, water, alcoholic beverages
(if provided by the Client). A tasty dessert tops off the meal.
This is the time to kick back, relax and tell tales of the day’s
adventures.
Lights
Out – Guests will sleep in range teepees. These
are replicas of tents used by the pioneers crossing the plains.
Sleeping bags, mats, pillows, extra blankets, and flashlights will
be supplied by SVR. Guests’ personal gear will be transported
to Cow Camp by Ranch staff.
DAY 2
7:30
a.m. – Breakfast at Cow Camp – Start
the day with a sunrise campfire and breakfast. A tasty one-entrée
breakfast will be prepared by our camp cook.
9:30
a.m. – Ride Back to the Ranch – Gang
2 will ride the horses back to the Ranch for showers, etc. Gang
1 will take the wagon.
10:00
a.m. to 12:00 p.m. – Arena Activities –
Gangs move to our championship arenas to compete in the following:
•Goat Dressin’ – Don’t ya know
goats, like to get dressed up! This activity is unique, but also
safe for our friendly goats. Guests compete to catch their goat,
and dress it in an oversized t-shirt and shorts. The Gang with the
fastest time wins! Half the battle is makin’ sure the goats
keep their shorts on! This activity is great for building communication
(mostly swearing), not to mention lots of laughs. And don’t
worry. This activity is designed to be safe for our friendly goats.
The winning Gang gets 10 hay cubes.
• Single Action Mounted Shooting
– Our Wranglers will demonstrate the art of Single Action
Shooting. This challenging Western activity is accomplished on horseback.
The trick is to ride as fast as possible while shooting playing
cards on poles set-up in a course. It’s like rubbing your
stomach, patting your head and walking all at the same time. Guests
will then be selected to try it. The guns we use on the ranch are
replicas of Single Action Colt Pistols that were used in the Wild
West. They don’t fire real bullets, just blanks, which makes
this activity safe yet very exciting.
• Team Cattle Penning – The
guests will have a hoot-and-a-half trying their hand at Team Cattle
Penning. After a demonstration by our Wranglers, teams of guests
volunteer to mount our well-trained horses and develop a strategy
to move an ornery herd of cattle from one end of the arena into
a pen at the other end. The Gang with the fastest time wins 10 hay
cubes to add to their gang bag!
12:00
p.m. – Lunch in the Ranch House –
Cowboys and Cowgirls mosey into the Ranch House for a delicious
two-entrée lunch buffet bar featuring Smokey Burgers with
cheese, Old West Chinese Laundry Chicken Salad, Potato Salad, and
a lip smackin’ dessert. Coffee, tea, water and soda are included,
as well as alcoholic beverages if provided by the Client.
1:00
p.m. to 4:00 p.m. – Cattle Drive –
Gang 1 rounds up the cattle and drives them across the desert to
a half-way point followed by the Chuck Wagon carrying Gang 2. Any
lost cattle and the Gang loses cow chips. At the halfway point Gangs
switch places and Gang 2 drives the cattle back to the Ranch. Don’t
lose any of those critters on the way home or you lose some chips.
Wild Cards can be used for this activity.
4:00
p.m. to 5:30 p.m. – Rest, Clean Up, and Hors d’oeuvres
in Ranch House. Those not wanting to exude an authentic
cowboy scent (stink) can use this time to shower and clean up. Hors
d’oeuvres and drinks will be served in the Ranch House while
you relax and recount your day’s adventures. The Client will
choose two hors d’oeuvres. Chair massages by our Ranch
Massage Therapist will be available to soothe those
sore muscles (and butts).
5:30
p.m. – Back to Cow Camp for Chuck Wagon Dinner (option
of dinner in Ranch House for whole group, if desired) – Transportation
for everyone to Cow Camp will be provided in the Chuck Wagon.
After
Dinner – Washboard Band Performances –
Gangs will perform their songs at this time!
7:00
p.m. – Acoustic Guitarist and Campfire –
As guests enjoy the romance of the campfire an acoustic guitarist
will entertain.
Lights
Out!

House or on the porch around the pot bellied stoves. A horseshoeing
demonstration will also be provided. Chair Massages
from our Ranch Massage Therapist will be available to soothe those
sore muscles (and butts).
